Madras Cafe is a spectacular political thriller.
Story of Indian Prime Minister assassination at Madras and how it happened. Indian army so called “peace force” enters Sri-lanka to end LTF. The LTF chief eliminates the Indian Pri-minister in the end.
The plus points of film are many. Focused story talks about how to make sure elections happens in Sri-lanka. John a RAW agent enters Sri-lanka to end LTF and he meets Nargis Fakri foreign journalist. They both believes in their professions and no non-sense drama like bollywood and this tightens the grip of the screenplay.
Realistic locations and cinematography and you can feel, “YES” terrorist could have lived here. Actions are fitting to army and terrorist interactions. Documentary style footage offers the exact reality of the killings.
Background score is brilliant except when John loses his wife, emotions seemed to low and may be was done deliberately to keep it as political big action drama. It is the tragedy without the fuss.
This is an excellent entertaining movie but is it a Game Changer for Bollywood..? Means, there are films like Maine Pyar Kiya, DDLJ changed the era and director started making more romantic movies. Zanjeer changed the game and more action movies of Big B in that era. I think it’s very good movie but not a game changer where directors will make more political thrillers.
John Abraham steams the show and Debutant Rashi looks beautiful in small role she got. Director Shoojit Sircaar deserves a credit for keeping integrity with his characters and doesn’t include a item song for terrorist !
I would Rate it 4 out of 5.
Best political thriller of recent times that Indian Cinema has given us.
